Liberal Democrats reach goal for WA registration

December 1, 2016

The Liberal Democrats are set to join the West Australian state election race after a successful campaign saw membership double over the last month.

The Party now has close to 800 members in WA, which comfortably meets requirements to register for the March election. The intention to register the party for the election must now be advertised by the Western Australian Electoral Commission before registration can be formalised.

The Liberal Democrats are a classical liberal party with a small government platform, and boasts its representatives will never vote for an increase in taxes or a reduction in freedom. They are perhaps best known as the party represented federally by Senator David Leyonhjelm,

Party strategists believe they have a realistic chance of achieving representation in the WA Upper House.

Hundreds of members have signed up in recent weeks using online campaigns targeting outdoor recreation groups including fishers, shooters, four-wheel drivers and supporters of other issues championed by the Liberal Democrats such as lower taxes, balanced budgets and assisted suicide.

The Liberal Democrats are one of Australia’s fastest growing parties, and have a membership of approximately 6,000 across the nation.
